Australia have agreements and treaties with Indonesia. One of these is the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Reconstruction and Development (AIRPD). On January 5, 2005, the Australian Prime Minister John Howard announced the AIRPD. This helps Indonesia to rebuild both the areas affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami and areas around it. It also helps to raise the living standards through development and economic growth. This is a long-term program and is the largest aid program in Australia’s history. Almost $2 billion has been spent on this program during five years.
